Validating Solar Panel Serial Numbers

The Clean Energy Regulator has partnered with the solar industry and peak bodies to introduce the Solar Panel Validation Pilot. Solar Scope were one of three technology providers selected to develop solutions for the Serial Number Validation Pilot Program. The pilot allows businesses in the Small-scale Renewable Energy scheme supply chain to quickly and easily check if solar panels are genuine before they are installed.

The Solar Panel Validation Pilot is made up of two parts — an app for installers to use on a mobile device and a database of verified information for solar panels, including solar panel serial numbers. Installers use the app to scan solar panel serial numbers, which are then checked against a database to ensure they are approved.

Benefits of validating solar panels

PV Owners - The validation program is to give owners of Solar PV systems peace of mind knowing that the solar panels being installed onto their home or building will be:

  • Genuine product that meets Australian Standards
  • Approved for Australia with warranties

Industry - Validating solar panels before they are installed minimises the risks:

  • For installers it minimises the issues with fraud with agents
  • For retailers it takes away the embarrassment of selling non approved products and minimises the risk of penalties
